WHAT IS NEEDED TO SET UP A RESTROOM TRAILER?
Set up the restroom trailer in a level, dry, and well-drained area. The delivery should be handled by an experienced driver with the appropriate driver’s license. It’s important to select a site that has enough space for a pumper truck to park close to the trailer. The dump valve is located at the front hitch end of the trailer, allowing the pumper truck to connect for waste removal. Access may be required daily, as the unit may need to be pumped out regularly.
HOW DO YOU DELIVER A RESTROOM TRAILER TO SITE?
HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY IS NEEDED FOR A RESTROOM TRAILER?
Most restroom trailers are powered by electricity, so it is recommended to provide each trailer with at least two independent electrical circuits. These circuits should be dedicated 20-amp power circuits to ensure adequate power supply. If the restroom trailer includes a winter package with electrical heaters, additional electrical power will be necessary.
It’s generally the site owner’s responsibility to supply the power cables to the trailer. Additionally, make sure that no other devices are drawing power from the circuits connected to the restroom trailer, as this can lead to insufficient power supply.
HOW DO YOU TROUBLESHOOT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS?
Most electrical issues in restroom trailers arise from inadequate power supply. For instance, an air conditioner might start but then trip a breaker shortly after if it does not receive sufficient electrical power. It’s essential to ensure that each power cord is appropriately sized (gauge) for both the distance it will run and the 20 amps it will draw.
Additionally, lightweight electrical cords tend to lose power over longer distances from the power source. If the power source is more than 150 feet away from the restroom trailer, it is advisable to use a generator to ensure consistent power supply.
DOES A RESTROOM TRAILER HAVE AN ON BOARD FRESH WATER TANK?
Many restroom trailers come equipped with an on-board freshwater tank located in the mechanical room. To draw water from this tank, the water pump must be turned “on.” This setup allows the restroom trailer to use water from the tank for essential functions like toilet flushing and handwashing.
PROVIDE WATER FOR THE RESTROOM TRAILER
CITY WATER FUNCTION
Every restroom trailer needs a garden hose that maintains a minimum water pressure of 40 psi and a flow rate of 5 gallons per minute. The trailer features a city water connection located beneath the mechanical room, allowing for a standard ¾” garden hose to supply fresh water to the toilets and sinks.
ON BOARD FRESH WATER FUNCTION
If the restroom trailer is equipped with an on-board freshwater tank, a water pump must be activated to draw water from the tank.
WASTEWATER FUNCTION
A large waste tank is integrated into the frame of the restroom trailer, with all toilets and sinks draining directly into this tank. A 3” dump valve installed at the towing end allows a pumper truck to easily remove waste.
The restroom trailer typically features low-flush toilets that operate with a foot pedal. To use the toilet for solids, press the foot pedal halfway to fill the bowl with water. After use, press the pedal all the way down to flush the waste into the tank.
The sinks are equipped with water-conserving faucets that activate by pressing down on the top valve. These faucets automatically shut off after approximately 10 seconds, and the flow can be adjusted using a set screw beneath the valve cover (refer to the faucet manual included with the trailer).
ROOF MOUNTED AIR CONDITIONING TIPS
The restroom trailer is equipped with a roof-mounted air conditioning unit that efficiently ducts air into each separate room. This system operates on 110v power and is controlled via a wall-mounted thermostat, typically located in one of the public restrooms. To prevent unauthorized adjustments, the thermostat is fitted with a lockable cover, allowing the desired temperature to be set securely. It is important to note that if electric heaters are installed in the restroom trailer, they will be regulated by separate thermostats.
IN SUMMARY
- Location: Choose a flat, level area for setting up the restroom trailer, ensuring there’s enough space for a pumper truck.
- Electrical Supply: Provide at least two dedicated 20-amp power circuits to ensure adequate electricity, as many electrical issues stem from insufficient power. Use appropriately sized power cords, especially if the power source is over 150 feet away.
- Water Supply: Ensure a fresh water supply is available with a minimum pressure of 40 psi and a flow rate of 5 gallons per minute. The trailer should have a city water connection for fresh water to toilets and sinks, and an on-board freshwater tank will require the pump to be activated for usage.
These guidelines will help ensure optimal operation and functionality of restroom trailers.
Most issues with restroom trailers stem from inadequate power supply. To ensure successful setup and operation, it is crucial to first verify that all necessary utilities are available to support the trailer’s functions.
